Urinary Tract Support

Urinary Tract Health – A Natural and Effective Alternative

About eight to ten million people are affected by urinary tract health challenges every year. The issue affects women more than men; it is estimated that one out of every five American women will deal with compromised urinary tract health in her lifetime.

A growing body of research indicates that bladder health can actually be compromised by unfriendly bacteria that enter the body through our food supply and take up residence in the colon. The most difficult challenges to UT health come from antibiotic resistant E. Coli. Unhelpful bacteria like this can cause immune system challenges, cause distress in the gut, find their way to the urinary tract, and adhere to the interior lining of the bladder.

Urinary Tract Supplements: Concentrated Benefits for Promoting UT Health*

Cranberry juice receives plenty of press for its ability to promote overall urinary tract health. While it’s true that cranberry juice can be beneficial as an extract, its efficacy depends on the concentration of proanthocyanadins present. Cranberry was initially believed to function by acidifying urine. However, the mechanism is now thought to be inhibition of adhesion of bacteria to uroepithelial cells (cells lining inside the urethra and bladder wall) by proanthocyanadin, a compound present in cranberry. Proanthocyanidins bind to harmful bacteria such as E. coli, forming a "Teflon-like" coating around them. The coating prevents the bacteria from sticking to gastrointestinal and urinary tract walls.*

A naturally occurring carbohydrate sugar, D-Mannose also has the ability to bind with E. coli before they can attach to the interior lining of the bladder. It appears that D-Mannose latches onto the sites that the unfriendly bacteria would use to attach to the bladder cell wall. A high-quality D-Mannose supplement is readily absorbed by the body and goes to work where it’s needed most. While cranberry juice and its extracts may vary depending on the levels of proanthocyanidins present, a D-Mannose supplement always delivers 100% of itself and, thus, can consistently provide effective UT health support.*

Recommended Ingredient

Danisco derives its D-Mannose CM20 powder from the bark of birch or beech trees.  Vegetarian and certified GMO-free, it is the only natural D-Mannose available (other sources are chemically synthesized). D-Mannose, taken as a dietary supplement, can potentially help maintain and support urinary tract health. Danisco’s D-Mannose has been demonstrated safe for long-term use by both adults and children.
